The members of the Orquesta Saboricua include: vocalist, Tony Acevedo, who sang in regional radio competitions in his native Puerto Rico and has a smooth sonero style reminiscent of Adalberto Santiago and Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez; trombonist, Julio Colon who started playing at age 13 when he heard Willie Colon’s amazing sound; saxophonist and flutist, Steve Marshall began his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music at the age of twelve and has performed with Charanga ’76, Orquesta Broadway and Potato. He brings his pacheco style flute and smooth sax playing to round out the Saboricua horn section; Jose Santiago, bongo, who was selected for the Pan American Games Big Band. His major musical influences include Chucho Valdez, Paquito D’Rivera and Cal Tjader; and Ali Choco Luna, conga, who has been performing since he was 10 years old.
